Meet Chani
Chani, named after a famous science-fiction female warrior, was born on Monday, March 4th at 4pm on the farm.
In front of clients and clinicians, her mom, Kammi, brought her into the world in less than 30 minutes, and began cleaning and feeding her daughter in no time.
Chani is a cross between an Angora and Nigerian Dwarf goat. She has a fluffy, pale fawn coat that we’ve augmented with a tiny blue-striped sweater to keep her warm in the barn. We anticipate that she will stay on the smaller side like her mom, with a thick wooly coat like her dad.
Shortly after birth, the Farm Manager set-up a pen just for Chani and Kammi to help with bonding. And even now when mom gets out for a brief break from motherhood, Chani will call to her and Kammi will come trotting back (often needing a little help from staff to carry her over the pen gates).
Although Chani hasn’t had a lot of interaction with clients at this point, she captures their attention with her performances. She enjoys stepping onto and falling off of logs and overturned bowls. Sometimes she enjoys crawling all over her mom while she rests. When Chani gets tired, her favorite place to lay is in a food bowl, or snuggled up to her mom.
We expect great things from Chani! Even in a brief walk outside with mom during a sunny afternoon, Chani was very curious and excited about the outside world. She enjoyed crunching on leaves, trying to wiggle through fencing after her mom, and a few times, even got the leaping zoomies!
We’re excited to introduce her to our community soon!
