Say “Hi” to Ruby!
Ruby was born Sunday, March 10th at around 9am.
She was found in the barn shortly after her birth, being cleaned by her mom, Hermione, as they were “bleating” back and forth to each other. She and her mom continue to have a strong bond, and although Ruby has shown herself to be a bold explorer in the farmyard, she will stay behind if called back. She will even patiently rest in her mom’s food dish, while Hermione eats hay around her.
Although Ruby is another Nigerian Dwarf and Angora goat cross, she looks very different from other goats at the farm. She is short in stature, has very dark fur, and bright white/blue eyes. She has large pointed ears that stand straight up off her little egg head, so that she resembles a small bat as she zooms around the barn floor. We like to say she’s both beautiful and a little “spooky”-looking.
Ruby is a very social creature when it comes to spending time with the other baby goats, especially Chani. Ruby will watch Chani climb the walls, interact with chickens, and eat hay; and then Ruby will attempt these things too. Although the smallest and youngest of our new babies so far, she is probably the quickest and most curious.
We hope you can come meet her at the farm someday soon!
