Community Initiatives

This project began as a way to provide the beneficial experience of giving back to our community. Each quarter we will be working with a collaborative partner to highlight non-profits who serve children and families in the area.

We are aiming to provide this channel as a starting point for our clients to experience the benefit of giving back, especially as it may serve as a starting point for helping themselves.

Current Initiative

WCAC Backpack program

This spring we are participating in the WCAC Head Start BackPack Project.

The Worcester Community Action Council’s Head Start program currently serves over 200 low-income children, ages 3-5, and their families in two centers - one located at 25 Cole Avenue, Southbridge; the other at 116 School Street, Webster. The center based programs provide developmentally appropriate curricula, health and nutrition services, breakfast, lunch and snack, special education opportunities, and family services.

We are doing a drive on behalf of the Worcester Community Action Council and have a donation drop off at the farm. We will be collecting the following items:

  • Backpacks

  • Lunch bags

  • #2 Pencils

  • Pencil Boxes

  • Hand Held Pencil Sharpeners with 2 Sizes of Holes

  • Erasers

  • 5 inch Blunt Tip Scissors

  • Glue Sticks

  • 4 oz. Glue

  • Tape

  • Crayons

  • Crayon Sharpeners

  • Markers

  • Colored Pencils

  • Watercolor Paint

  • Folders

  • Tissues

  • Antibacterial Hand Sanitizer

Past Initiatives

In the winter we are hosted a drive to support More Than Words (MTW).

MTW empowers young people who are in foster care, court involved, homeless, or out of school. The non-profit provides an opportunity for these young individuals to take charge of a business, and in turn take charge of their futures. We accepted donations of books, DVDs, CDs, video games, clothing, and shoes. It was a great turnout and we received plenty of donations.

We kicked this project off in by supporting Open Table during the Fall. Open Table is a non-profit organization, based in Maynard, which works to end hunger in our local community by providing healthy food in ways that respect the dignity and diversity of those served.

The goal was to collect items that went towards assembling Kid Bags - a collection of nutritious foods, supportive messages and educational materials which were then distributed to some of our youngest community members.
